Three Moab City Council seats will be up for election this year during the Nov. 7, 2023, general election. Moab residents interested in running for city council must file a declaration of candidacy during the first full week of June.
The candidate filing period opens Thursday, June 1 and continues through Wednesday, June 7, excluding Saturday and Sunday. Declarations of candidacy must be filed in person with the Moab City Recorder during the following times: Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m and Friday 8 a.m. to noon. Moab City offices close at noon on Fridays but candidates may arrange to file on Friday after 12 p.m. by calling 435-259-2683 to schedule an appointment with the city recorder.

If necessary, a primary election will be held Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023, to narrow the field to six candidates.
The general election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023.
According to state law, all candidates must meet the following requirements:
- U.S. Citizen at the time of filing.
- Registered voter in the municipality for at least 30 days prior to the date of the election. Registered voter requirements can be found in Utah Code 20A-2-101 & 104.
- Resident of Moab City for at least one year prior to the date of the election.
All city elected offices are at-large and non-partisan. Those elected to fill the open positions will be sworn in and take office on Jan. 2, 2024.
