This year, the City of Moab was among 23 Utah municipalities participating in the Utah Ranked Choice Voting pilot project.
Ranked choice voting (RCV) eliminates primaries because voters rank their choice of candidates in a general election. RCV requires that a candidate receive a majority (50 percent plus 1 of the votes) to win. In each RCV round, the candidate with the lowest number of votes is eliminated. When a voter's number one choice is eliminated, their second choice is included in the count for the second round. This elimination process continues until one candidate receives a majority and is deemed the winner.
Now, the City of Moab is asking voters to provide feedback on their experience with using ranked choice voting.
