Most City of Moab facilities will remain closed to the public as long as Utah Gov. Gary Herbert and the Utah Department of Health keep Grand County in the “high transmission risk” for COVID-19. The building closures include City Hall, the Moab Arts and Recreation Center (MARC), the Center Street Gym, the Moab Public Works office, and the City Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Moab City Manager Joel Linares said the decision to keep these facilities closed was made to protect the health and safety of the community and Moab City staff. The City will continue to conduct business, he added.
“City staff will continue to work hard for the community. The only difference is that many staff members are working from home for now,” Linares said. “Anyone who needs to do business with the City can call the appropriate department and staff will be available to provide assistance and information. We’re always here to help.”
Tenants at the MARC will still have access however masks must be worn at all times. All City recreation programs, including winter sports, have been canceled, and the gym and sports facilities are no longer available to rent.
The Moab Recreation and Aquatic Center (MRAC) will remain open and City staff must wear masks at all times. Customers must wear masks at all times except when in the pool or the fitness center. Lifeguards are required to wear masks at all times, except when on the pool deck and on duty. Social distancing will be required in the MRAC.
During the building closures, a limited number of employees will be working at City Hall and the rest will telecommute temporarily.

On Oct. 22, Gov. Gary Herbert placed Grand County in the “high transmission” category due to a spike in local COVID-19 cases. In the past few weeks, a rise in COVID-19 cases and exposures also occurred among City staff at City Hall and other City facilities, prompting City administration to close most facilities to the public beginning Oct. 23.
