A dinner and silent auction will be held at Grand County High School, 608 400 East, on Tuesday, Feb. 18 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. to benefit the family of Vilsar and Israel Camey.
The dinner will cost $10 per person ($50 for a family of 6) and all proceeds and donations will go to the Camey family. For more information contact Caitlin Ballard, 435-260-2663, or Angie Roberts, 435-840-1646.
Vilsar Camey, 45, of Moab, died Feb. 9 after his vehicle was struck by a pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed through downtown Moab at about 10 p.m. Israel Camey, 10, was a passenger in his father’s vehicle. Israel died two days later from injuries he received in the crash.
Benjamin Balls, 41, of Hyde Park, Utah, was arrested at the scene of the accident and faces multiple charges including two counts of manslaughter.
Moab Police Chief Bret Edge said Balls’ pickup truck also forced several vehicles off the road as it headed into downtown Moab and struck another vehicle after colliding with the Chevy Tahoe driven by Camey. The driver of the other vehicle was a Moab woman who was pregnant. She was transported to Moab Regional Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Donations for the family are being accepted at Zions Bank under the name Monica Camey, and a GoFundMe account has also been created.
