[ARCHIVED] UDOT Awards Bid For North U.S. 191 Widening Project

January 29, 2020

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) awarded a 20.5 million-dollar contract Wednesday afternoon to Kilgore Contracting, which has operations in the City of Moab, to reconstruct U.S. Highway 191 from 400 North to the Colorado River Bridge, UDOT officials said in a news release.

"The nod to move forward comes on the heels of additional funding approved by the Utah Transportation Commission on Friday, Jan. 24, after bids came in higher than estimated," the news release stated.

The project includes reconstructing the existing roadway to accommodate an additional travel lane in each direction along with left-turning options and the addition of curb, gutter and approximately one mile of sidewalk extending south from the Colorado River Bridge on the west side. In addition, UDOT is partnering with Moab City to construct a stormwater waste system to aid with stormwater runoff from rain events above Cermak Drive.

UDOT said the process of addressing the higher bids "has delayed the anticipated project schedule by approximately two weeks. Construction could begin as early as the end of February and as late as March pending reception of required legal documentation from the contractor."
