Greg Fosse, Moab City’s Wastewater Reclamation Facility Superintendent and Chief Operator, has been named Utah’s Wastewater Operator of the Year by the Rural Water Association of Utah. Fosse was presented with the award during the association’s annual conference in St. George.
“Moab has long needed an upgrade to its wastewater treatment facilities and once that upgrade was approved Greg has spearheaded the project to move from an old Trickling Filter Plant to a new Sequencing Batch Reactor Plant,” Rural Water Association of Utah Executive Director Dale Pierson said in presenting the award to Fosse. “He has been instrumental in the design and layout of the plant and has seen to operator training to make sure it is functioning perfectly. Testing shows he has been successful and that Moab can now be proud of this state-of-the-art facility.”
Fosse expressed his appreciation for the award and added that he shares the recognition with many others who have worked alongside him in Moab.
“Individual awards were created to recognize the accomplishments of one person. Anyone, regardless of what path their life has taken them down, that has ever received an award for personal achievement knows that it is far from that,” Fosse said. “In almost 17 years there are countless people that have taught me, guided me and worked with me that are every bit as deserving of a piece of this award as I am alone. So to all of these people I give you a heartfelt thank you, and especially to Rural Water Association of Utah for the recognition.”
In his 17 years at the City of Moab, Fosse worked tirelessly to keep the City’s more than 60-year-old sewer treatment plant operating in compliance with state and federal reporting standards, even as the demands on that facility continued to grow. With the opening of the new wastewater treatment facility, he has been instrumental in ensuring that the new plant is already operating far beyond expectations for a new facility with regard to federal Environmental Protection Agency and state compliance standards.
“We are so proud of Greg and I’m thrilled to see him recognized for all his hard work and dedication,” Moab Mayor Emily Niehaus said. “He has truly risen to the top in his career field. Greg is a great asset to the Moab community.”
